About the Pro Bono Immigration Assistance Program
The Pro Bono Immigration Assistance Program is a community program of USCIS Expert, an immigration education initiative of Build Champions, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Many immigrants, refugees and families cannot afford private legal help. Through this program, our team reviews requests for assistance and, where possible, refers individuals to volunteer attorneys, accredited representatives, legal professionals and supervised law students. Asking for help and your consultation are free. If a volunteer attorney prepares or files your case for you, they charge a reduced fee, well below typical legal fees, which you agree with the attorney directly. Build Champions is not a law firm. Any attorney-client relationship is formed directly between the individual and the volunteer attorney.
How the program works
Who we aim to help
Priority is given to individuals meeting poverty guidelines, refugees and asylum seekers, survivors of violence or human trafficking, vulnerable families, and people facing urgent humanitarian concerns. Requests may relate to asylum, family-based immigration, U and T visas, VAWA petitions, naturalization, green card applications, and responses to Requests for Evidence. Submitting a request does not guarantee a referral, because volunteer availability is limited. To get started, complete the Apply for Immigration Assistance form. For general questions, explore our free immigration education library or contact our team. USCIS Expert is not affiliated with USCIS or any U.S. government agency.
